Solution

Zero Export / Zero Grid Feed-in

Stop your solar plant from sending power to the grid, while you use as much solar as your load allows.

Zero Export / Zero Grid Feed-in

The problem

In many places a rooftop plant is not allowed to export power to the grid, or exported units are not paid for. But solar does not know this. When the load drops, on a holiday, at lunch time or when a big machine stops, the extra solar power flows out to the grid.

Some sites deal with this by switching inverters off, or by keeping solar capped at a fixed low level all day. Either way, the solar you paid for is wasted.

How it works

  1. A meter at the grid incomer measures the power on each phase.
  2. The controller reads this meter continuously.
  3. It works out how much solar the site load can take right now.
  4. It sends an output limit to each inverter over RS485 Modbus RTU.
  5. When the load rises, the limit goes up. When the load falls, solar is cut back within moments, so export stays at zero or very close to it.
  6. Data and alerts go to the Solar Portal, so you can see it working.

What you get

  • No power export to the grid
  • Most of your solar is used, very little is wasted
  • More of your load runs on solar, so you buy less from the grid
  • Works with your existing inverters, after a compatibility check
  • Control runs at site, even when the internet is down
  • Safe side: if the meter reading is lost, solar is held back

Good to know

  • Inverters change their output at a set ramp speed. A sudden large load drop can cause a short, small export before the inverters settle. We set a small import margin to keep this in check, and tune it for your site.
  • On unbalanced three-phase loads, the controller can work on the weakest phase, so no single phase exports.
  • The control command is different for each inverter make. Send us your inverter make and model before you order, and we will confirm.

Zero Export: use your solar without feeding the grid

How an Indolfin zero-export controller reads the grid meter and limits the inverter in real time, so export stays at zero or very close to it while your load still runs on solar. Hindi voice.
